We are going to pattern our Youth Conference after FSY. You may have attended FSY this past summer, or maybe you know someone that did. Either way, you know how awesome FSY is! So, you could say that we are doing a Stake level FSY this summer at Martin’s Cove. Read through the itinerary and watch the "Intro to Youth Conference" video to discover how we are going to make Youth Conference resemble FSY.
We are going to Martin’s Cove because it is a sacred place where sacred things happened. It was here that the pioneers, through their difficulties, came to know God and learned how to recognize the Lord in their lives. Our focus during this Youth Conference will be on the Lord Jesus Christ. Our focus will be on the tender mercies available to the faithful from a loving Savior. We will focus on developing “pioneer like faith”, that faith which is necessary to keep moving forward in our discipleship, even when it can be hard. We will be in a place where we can feel and recognize the Spirit. By using the pioneers as examples of those that saw the Lord and His tender mercies even during the most difficult times of their lives, it is our intention to see in their example how we too can find the Lord during the best times of our lives, and also in the most difficult times of our lives.
President Gordon B. Hinckley, when speaking of the pioneers, has made this promise to each of us, “It is good to look to the past to gain appreciation for the present and perspective for the future. It is good to look upon the virtues of those who have gone before; to gain strength for whatever lies ahead. It is good to reflect upon the work of those who labored so hard and gained so little in this world, but out of whose dreams and early pains, so well nurtured, has come a great harvest of which we are the beneficiaries. Their tremendous example can become a compelling motivation for all of us.”
In addition to the pioneers, we are going to look at those brave men and women who sacrificed all to help rescue the pioneers from the freezing winter storms as examples of how to minister and care for one another. President Gordon B. Hinkley has said, “Stories of their rescue need to be repeated again and again. They speak of the very essence of the gospel of Jesus Christ.” We are anxious to share with you the stories of these rescuers. They are some of the greatest heroes of Church History. Our primary focus will be on the ultimate rescuer, Jesus Christ, who is anxious to rescue us each and everyday through His atonement, and to ultimately rescue us by bringing us to the Celestial Kingdom.
We encourage you to participate in the Pay the Price challenge. This will help you come to know these wonderful pioneer stories better, and the lessons that can be learned from these stories. We also encourage you to arrive at Martin's Cove with a question in mind, a question you want the Lord to answer.
The Lord is aware of you, and the opportunity that awaits you at our special once-in-a-lifetime Youth Conference.
