Q: When is Youth Conference?
A: Youth Conference will begin at the Stake Center
at 8:00am on July 31. We will return to the Stake Center at about 7:30pm on August 2.
Q: Where will Youth Conference be held?
A: We will be at sacred Martin's Cove in Wyoming.
Q: Who can attend Youth Conference?
A: Those who are at least 14 years old and still a
High School student at the time of Youth Conference are invited to attend.
(Those that will be 14 by 12/31/23 are also invited to attend)
Q: How will the Youth get to Martin's Cove?
A: We will be traveling in the comfort of
chartered buses which are fully equipped with a sound system, movie screens, leather
seats, and a bathroom.
Q: Will the Youth be pulling handcarts?
A: Yes! We will have about 10 Youth per handcart.
We will use the handcarts on Day 2 of Youth Conference and pull them about 5
miles.
Q: Is the trail difficult?
A: No. The trail which we will trek is a flat,
well groomed trail. Typical tennis shoes would be fine to walk in.
Q: Is it required to wear "pioneer"
clothing?
A: Members of our Stake Youth Council have helped
us determine the answer to this question. Please see the "Pioneer Clothing" tab
for more information.
Q: Will we eat like pioneers?
A: Absolutely not! For our first dinner, we are
catering JDawgs. The next evening will be a Cafe-Rio style dinner. We will have
full breakfasts which will include pancakes, bacon, eggs, etc. Please see the
"Menu" tab for specific details.
Q: Will I be with my friends?
A: Yes, and you will make many new friends too!
Like FSY, the Youth will be organized into Companies made up of Youth of
similar ages. Companies will be made up of Youth from throughout the Stake.
However, on the Registration form, you may list one friend you would like to
make sure is in your same Company. This friend can be from any Ward within the
Stake. Ward members will camp together each night.
Q: Do I need to bring my own tent and camping
equipment?
A: You will share a tent with members of your own
Ward. Ward Youth Leaders will help organize these details.
Q: How can I spiritually prepare for Youth
Conference?
A: Participate in the "Pay the Price"
challenge!
Q: What is the "Pay the Price" challenge?
A: This is a fun way to learn more about the
Pioneers and to prepare spiritually for Youth Conference.
Q: Will we be learning the history of the Martin Handcart Company and the Rescuers?
A: Yes, but the vast majority of this learning is to be done prior to arriving at Youth Conference. We want all participants arriving at Martin's Cove with an understanding of what took place there, and why it is sacred ground. That way, time can be spent feeling the Spirit and have a memorable spiritual experience, rather than spending that time learning the history. Your Youth Conference experience should not be limited to just these three days. Participating in the "Pay the Price" challenge will help you be best prepared for your time at Martin's Cove. And make sure to watch the videos in our "Video" section.
Q: Why should I attend Youth Conference?
A: Youth Conference is a unique opportunity to
visit a sacred Church History site, and an opportunity to have fun with
hundreds of other Youth, while learning doctrinal lessons that will help you
come closer to Christ.
Q: How much will I need to pay to participate in
Youth Conference?
A: Nothing! Besides your personal belongings,
the Stake will provide 100% of the costs for Youth Conference.
Q: What if I have a medical need while at Youth
Conference?
A: We will have several experienced and licensed
nurses with us to help make sure we stay safe and healthy. The onsite
missionaries are also prepared to help with any medical emergencies.
Q: I am concerned about a specific situation. Can I
ask questions before Youth Conference?
A: Yes! There is space on the Registration form
for you to make us aware of any concerns you may have. Please let us know how
we can help you have a wonderful experience! You can also email the Stake Youth
Presidents at lehiwillowparkstake@gmail.com
Q: Can I bring my cell phone?
A: There is no cell service at Martin's Cove.
Bringing a cell phone can distract you from fully participating in our
activities, however, a cell phone might be good to have so you can take
pictures and access your scriptures. With all of this in mind, it is up to you
and your parents if you bring a cell phone or not.
